I never expected to read a novel about project management. My first impression of it was that it has a creative approach to introducing important concepts of this topic in a smooth and intelligent way. The story in this first two chapters introduces two characters with very peculiar personalities and great perspective of the situation. I really enjoyed the conversations between those characters and at the end it left me with more interest to know what will happen next.
From the first chapter there is an interesting topic which is introduced by the characters by debating about the company. The woman states that the most important thing about management is the individuals involved in it. At first, I was trying to figure it out and by making comparisons with other experiences that had have I realized that it was true. Human resources in project management is the most important task because one can have an amazing structure of the project, but the process will be fully affected by the people.
Finally, by reading the second chapter there is a section where a professor is explaining the topics that are going to be seeing throughout the course. In that part were Tompkins gets mad because they weren’t going to teach the human perspective of project management, I realized that it was related to the first part of the first chapter. By those encounters I concluded that in project management the most difficult subject to learn is the human resources and that even though one learns all the structures and techniques, if there is poor knowledge about HR, it will eventually fail.
